Monument designed by Robert E. Launitz for
the family of Joshua Bethel Bowles
(Section O. lot 303) overlooks
part of the National Cemetery,
established in 1861 (Jefferson
County Deed Book 206, p.440). Bowles
established a wholesale dry-goods
house and was president of the
Bank of Louisville, Chamber of
Commerce, and the Franklin Fire
Insurance Company and was active
in the University of Louisvilles
early affairs. |
