The Opportunity
Cave Hill Cemetery is seeking a dedicated, positive, and leadership-oriented Horticulture Specialist to help maintain our historic, park-like grounds. As a Horticulture Specialist, you do more than just plant; you serve as a caretaker of our landscape and a mentor to your team. We are looking for an individual who brings a proactive approach to the field every day and takes pride in providing a serene, beautiful environment for the families we serve.
In this role, you will work under the Landscape and Horticulture Manager, but you will be the primary leader and mentor for an assigned Horticulture Technician on day-to-day activities.
Key Responsibilities
Horticultural Care: A key understanding of seasonal landscape maintenance. Advanced knowledge of pruning, planting, watering, and hand-weeding to maintain our high standards of landscape maintenance.

The Opportunity
Cave Hill Cemetery is looking for a hardworking and detail-oriented Horticulture Technician to join our grounds care team. In this role, you will work directly with a Horticulture Specialist to maintain our historic, park-like landscape. Key Responsibilities
Daily Maintenance: Perform essential landscape tasks including hand-weeding, mulching, watering, and debris removal to keep assigned sections pristine.
Planting & Installation: Assist the Horticulture Specialist in the planting of trees, shrubs, perennials, and seasonal annual displays.
Service Preparation: Ensure that areas surrounding upcoming burial services are groomed and respectful for grieving families.
Equipment Care: Safely operate utility vehicles (UTVs), blowers, string trimmers, and hand tools, ensuring all equipment is cleaned and stored properly.
Site Monitoring: Alert the Horticulture Specialist to any signs of plant stress, or pests, noticed during daily rounds.
Qualifications
Work Ethic: A proactive attitude and the ability to follow detailed instructions from the Horticulture Specialist.
Physical Stamina: Ability to perform physically demanding labor, including lifting up to 50 lbs, bending, and walking for long periods in all weather conditions (heat, rain, or cold).

Position Summary
The Customer Service and Security Team Manager is responsible for leading and managing all aspects of the cemetery’s security, visitor services, and burial service coordination. This individual oversees a team of representatives, ensures the safety and well-being of all visitors and staff, enforces cemetery policies, and delivers exceptional service to grieving families, visitors, funeral homes, and community partners. The role requires strong leadership, discretion, professionalism, and a commitment to maintaining a respectful and secure environment.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership and Staff Management
- Supervise the Security and Customer Service Representative team, including hiring, training, scheduling, and performance management.
- Establish clear expectations for professional appearance, conduct, and service standards.
- Provide ongoing coaching and development to ensure excellent service and security practices.
- Coordinate staffing for burials, special events, holidays, and after-hours needs.
Security Oversight
- Develop, implement, and enforce safety and security protocols for cemetery grounds, facilities, and visitors.
- Monitor the use and maintenance of surveillance equipment, alarm systems, gates, and access controls.
- Respond to emergencies, incidents, and disturbances, ensuring accurate reporting and resolution.
- Liaise with local law enforcement or emergency services as needed.

Position Summary
The Customer Service and Security Team Member serves as a key point of contact for cemetery visitors and staff, ensuring a safe, welcoming, and respectful environment. This individual is responsible for monitoring cemetery grounds and facilities, escorting families during burial services, enforcing cemetery policies, and providing exceptional customer service to all who visit.
Key Responsibilities
Security and Safety
- Patrol cemetery grounds, buildings, and perimeter to ensure the safety and security of visitors, staff, and property.
- Monitor security systems, alarms, and surveillance equipment.
- Respond to and document incidents, disturbances, or emergencies in accordance with cemetery policies.
- Report maintenance or safety concerns promptly.
- Lock and unlock gates, buildings, and facilities according to operating schedules.
- Monitor the presence and behavior of wildlife on cemetery grounds to ensure safety for visitors, staff, and animals.
- Provide basic care and oversight for domesticated animals on the property, including feeding and monitoring the well-being of resident fowl and fox in accordance with established care routines.
Customer Service

Position Summary
The Assistant Engraver supports the cemetery’s memorialization services by assisting with the layout, preparation, and engraving of monuments and markers. This role helps preserve the cemetery’s commitment to honoring loved ones through high-quality, respectful craftsmanship. The position requires precision, attention to detail, and the ability to work safely with tools and materials.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist in preparing materials for engraving, including cleaning, masking, and staging granite monuments.
- Operate engraving machinery under supervision (e.g., sandblasters).
- Assist with stencil preparation, layout, and application to ensure accurate and legible designs.
- Maintain accurate records of work performed and ensure timely completion of assigned projects.
- Support transport and installation of finished monuments and markers within the cemetery grounds.
- Clean, maintain, and inspect engraving equipment for safety and performance.
- Work closely with the monument team and families to ensure personalized memorials meet expectations.

Position Summary
The Monument Restoration Intern works alongside an experienced historic stone preservationist to learn the trade of monument and grave marker setting, stabilization, cleaning, and restoration in a cemetery environment. This position supports the preservation of historic memorials through hands-on field and shop work, using basic tools, cleaning agents, mortars, epoxy-resin mixes, and repair materials. The ideal candidate is safety-focused, detail-oriented, physically capable, and eager to learn preservation techniques and quality workmanship standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Work under the guidance of an experienced historic stone preservationist to learn proper monument and grave marker restoration techniques.
- Assist with the resetting, leveling, straightening, cleaning, and repair of damaged, fallen, or weathered monuments and grave markers.
- Safely and effectively use basic hand tools and preservation trade tools in both field and shop settings.
- Learn and assist with masonry and concrete repair techniques as related to monument preservation.
- Use brushes, cleaning solutions, basic chemicals, mortars, and epoxy-resin mixes in accordance with established preservation and safety standards.
- Help prepare surfaces, materials, and work areas for preservation and repair projects.
- Support monument lifting, positioning, and setting work using proper procedures and equipment.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment in the field and in the shop.
- Follow all cemetery, shop, and jobsite safety procedures, including the proper use of personal protective equipment.
- Work collaboratively with staff and team members from diverse backgrounds and departments.
