Monument Preservation Intern

Pay range: $18 to $22 per hour

As a Monument Preservation Intern, you will gain valuable hands-on experience working with Cave Hill Cemetery's monument preservation staff repairing monuments and headstones using a combination of traditional and modern methods and materials. Projects include repointing of monuments, mausoleums, and other structures; adhesive repairs of broken marble, slate, sandstone and granite monuments, and the repair and resetting of loose and leaning headstones.

Qualifications and physical demands include, but are not limited to:

  • Intern will be trained the necessary hands on skills that will be required to perform this job.
  • Strong preservation ethics, patience, and the desire to perform careful, conscientious and lasting repairs to these invaluable historic resources.
  • Must be able to operate a variety of hand and power tools safely and effectively including, but not limited to various drills, circular saw, table saw, miter saw, angle grinder, reciprocating saw, and bench grinder.
  • Basic computer skills, as required.
  • Heavy work that includes moving, adjusting, or carrying objects weighing up to 80 pounds on frequent/constant/occasional basis.
  • Position involves moving in different positions to accomplish tasks in various environments for extended period of time, including, remaining in a stationary position and/or performing activities such as climbing, bending, twisting, reaching, pulling, and working from an elevated position on scaffold or in a lift.
  • Must be able to perform physically strenuous work, including heavy lifting, outdoors throughout the year in all weather conditions.
  • Must possess valid driver's license.

Administrative Assistant

Pay: $22 to $26 per hour

The Administrative Assistant will provide administrative support to the Cave Hill Heritage Foundation Manager and other senior staff, as required.


  • Performs clerical and administrative tasks including drafting letters, memos, invoices, reports, and other documents for senior staff.
  • Schedules and attends meetings on behalf of executives, taking notes and recording minutes.
  • Receives incoming communication or memos on behalf of senior staff, reviews contents, determines importance, and summarizes and/or distributes contents to appropriate staff.
  • Performs office tasks including maintaining records, ordering supplies, and performing basic bookkeeping.
  • Provides leadership to interns, as requested.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment.
  • Extensive knowledge of office administration, clerical procedures, and recordkeeping systems.

  • Extremely proficient with donor development software- eTapestry and Quickbooks.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma required; Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or related field preferred.
  • At least two years of related experience required.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.

Regular Tasks


  • Facilitates needs of Accounts Receivable & Payable
  • Maintains General Ledger

Database Management

  • Manages development CRM database using established protocols
  • Researches donor prospects using Researchpoint system


  • Facilitate development-related research: Corporate and Foundation relations
  • Prepares statistical reports
  • Assembles mailing lists
  • Classifies donors using established system
  • Conducts prospect research (corporate, foundation, and donor)
  • Use Foundation Databook to identify grantor agencies and preparation of prospect reports

Internal Communications

  • Reviews and edits correspondence
  • Researches and writes copy for production

External Communications

  • Provides customer service
  • Leading school tours
  • Weekly tours on the golf cart to guests (Spring, Summer & Fall)
  • Distribution of Grief Correspondence
  • Contacts families via phone re: Grief Services
  • Event preparation for Grief services
  • Records maintenance within eTapestry for Grief Program

General Crew

Pay: From $17 per hour

As a General Crew member you would be trained to mow grass, string trim grass, work on landscaping projects and a variety of other cemetery grounds projects in the cemetery. Good attention to detail is necessary. You should enjoy working outside in a park-like setting in any kind of weather conditions. We are looking for seasonal and full-time crew members.

Monument & Marker Crew

Pay: $17 to $20 per hour

As a Monument & Marker Crew member, you would have the following duties:

  • Moving, picking up, dropping off, installing, leveling, and fixing of monuments and markers.
  • Troweling and pouring of concrete foundations
  • Operation of a pressure washer
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds
  • Will be trained to operate equipment such as lifts, small cranes, utility vehicles, backhoes, tractors, etc.
  • Will be trained to use a spade, shovel, and auger for digging foundations
